bladed_dragon: (You Thinkin' What I'm Thinkin'?)
Legends are not particularly forgiving towards women, I've noticed. But I suppose in most cases Houyi and Chang'e lived happily despite their circumstances. And at least the mooncakes are still delicious. Just as long as you're mindful of possible secret messages.

...You have the worse excellent timing, Yang. I'll be sure to have the Jade Rabbit pound your pills thoroughly before giving them to you.

Looking over the legend of the Qixi Festival only reminds me of the fact that humans, in all their splendor, are tragically hopeless romantics. And maybe that's a good thing.

Traditions are traditions. But I certainly don't miss the melon carvings.

There are many dreadful things but nothing is more dreadful than human beings.
                                                              ▬ Sophocles

And nothing has the potential to be more wonderful. It just depends on the situation. I've seen a lot of horrible things in this life. Cruel things that put to question whether we should be so honored to be called civilized. Most of the time I, for one, don't think I deserve the right to such a title. Especially with some of the things I've done in the past. Everyone's guilty of it. Only a handful who view themselves above the muck and grime of human existence deny it.

But every once in a while, I'll do something that makes it not seem so bad. A glimmer of hope, if you will, that shines through all the darkness that makes it ok, at least for a little while.

And it's almost as if I'm human again.

Then some deadbeat tries to put his hands on me in the bar. And I get sent right back to square one. With a bang. But I guess this is what I get for working in security.

It is not safe to honor with hymns and praise those still living, before they have traversed the whole of life and reached a noble end.
                                             ▬ Plato, Laws

Memories are a tricky thing. A deadly thing at times. Some you wish to keep, others you'd sooner prefer to forget. They have the ability to both cripple and empower. To encourage or dissuade. The difficult task is deciding which goes where and to what use they could be to you. And that is, perhaps, when they are at their most dangerous.

Where will your memories lead you?

Old age and the passage of time teaches us everything.

Please, no pink cakes.

It is a matter of no little importance what sort of habits we form from the earliest age ▬ it makes a vast difference, or rather all the difference in the world.

It takes 3 to 4 thousand repetitions of one singular move before it becomes an instinctual act, or a 'flinch reaction' as they sometimes call it. Muscle memory is not something you can acquire instantly, so patience is a valued asset when dealing with such things.

The new recruits have yet to learn this, apparently.
